Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder Edition brings your voice into play

During Winter NAMM 2019, Arturia announced the upcoming release of its newest experimental hybrid synthesizer, the Arturia MicroFreak. When April came around, and MicroFreak began making its way into store, eagerness rose even more among potential buyers. Now, after many requests from its fanbase to do so, Arturia has expanded MicroFreak, adding a full-fledged vocoder system with enhanced features. Its name, simply put, is the Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder Edition.

What’s New?

The Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder Edition offers everything the original MicroFreak did, only adding even more. Users can still blend and utilize up to 14 different oscillators to create their ideal sounds. This also includes the same analog filters and modulation effects that were available before. The only differences with this model are a minor facelift given to the control panel, and a new swan graphic at the center strip. Another notable difference is that the new Vocoder Edition MicroFreak comes in an all-white color, rather than the darker finish to the original version. You’ll still be able to store up to 256 available presets, and choose from any of 224 factory sounds.

Of course, true to its name, the biggest difference to this new synth is the included vocoder section. This engine comes with three waveforms — sawtooth, pulse wave, and noise. Additionally, users can finely shape the vocoder’s 16-band tone response, using both the included timbre and shape controls. As for a microphone, Arturia is throwing in a gooseneck style vocoder mic that can hang over the top of the synth for easy use. And, any upset pre-vocoder MicroFreak users can rest easy, since vocoding will be available in an upcoming update.

Arturia MicroFreak Vocoder Edition is now available to purchase, and in stock at your preferred dealer, for just $349. This is definitely still a great price, especially for all of its new features. Anybody who wants to learn more about the new features, or MicroFreak in general can head over to Arturia’s website to find out everything you’re looking for.
