Apple is offering Logic Pro X access free for 90 days

As we have seen already in the past few weeks, many companies have reached out offering free products to musicians who may be struggling financially and creatively. Most recently, Avid, the creators of Pro Tools, Sibelius, Media Composer, and many other products, announced a temporary, free license to some professional users. Since that announcement, Apple has now come forward to offer a free 90 day ‘trial’ period for its own flagship DAW, Logic Pro X — normally priced at $199.

For many engineers and producers, Logic is the primary workstation of choice. That said, this freebie does work slightly differently than Avid’s offer. To many Avid users, the access path of choice is through its monthly subscription model in order to access the most up to date features. Therefore, its new offer offers more of a monthly license fee waiver. In the case of Apple’s Logic Pro X however, users pay up-front for the software, and can automatically access updates without any subscription based access. As such, this offer from Apple appears to cater mostly towards those who may have been about to purchase Logic Pro X before the pandemic, and are now unable to. Or, possibly towards users who have been on the fence for some time.

Apple has also added that after things surrounding COVID-19 start to slow, it will continue to offer free trials of Logic Pro X, but only for 30 days. If you are someone who will be taking advantage of this offer, be sure to keep checking for it. You can download Logic Pro X for yourself straight from the Mac App Store, or head to the Apple website to sign up for the 90-day free trial.
