TC Electronic announces TC1210-DT spatial expander hardware/software hybrid unit at AES 2018

At AES 2018 it appears audio engineering equipment manufacturers from near and far are revealing big pieces of equipment that have been under wraps for quite a while. TC Electronic was undoubtedly no outlier to this unwritten rule, as it made its appearance at the showcase with not 1, but 2 brand new pieces of equipment for engineers to use and enjoy. Both of which have setups that combine hardware and software technology. One of them being the TC1210-DT spatial expander — which we will be covering in this article — and the other being called the TC8210-DT reverb unit.

Features

The newly released TC1210-DT from TC Electronic is a fantastic unit for any producer or engineer working out of a smaller-scale studio space to achieve a crystal-clear chorus or modulation effect to add to their mix. Its setup is similar to that of its brother release, the TC8210-DT, in that its powerhouse for all audio processing is done internally, through the plugin software. The hardware included acts as a remote so that the user has a more tactile control over functions such as the speed, depth, delay and intensity of its stereo chorus effect, allowing a more limited need for mouse clicks. There are a handful of modulation effects that can be selected — including chorus, vibrato and two different flanger effects. Within, the engineer can also create, store and load presets as well as bypass all effects. The TC1210-DT hardware remote is also powered and run entirely off of USB.

Price

Like its twin release, the TC1210-DT is not yet publicly available, but TC Electronic plans to ship to retailers worldwide, making the unit available for purchase by the end of 2018. The company has set a minimum advertised price of just $200 for this unit, which makes it completely accessible and affordable to producers regardless of skill level or wallet size.
