TC Electronic unwraps the fun-sized BAM200 bass amplifier

When it comes to the legacy that TC Electronic has left behind so far in the pro audio world, one would easily reflect upon its series of plugins, guitar effects pedals and other basic hardware. Very few, however, would immediately pair the name TC Electronic with instrument amplifiers. Recently, the company has come forward to prove that those people dead wrong, and has released the new TC Electronic BAM200 bass amp to the world.

Features

The first thing that stands out about the TC Electronic BAM200 bass amp is — you guessed it — its size. Which, for a company that does not yet have a major mark in guitar and bass amplification, doesn’t come as much of a surprise. This amp sports a mere 16cm by 4cm dimension build on the face, making it a great amp to take along on the road, or even fit right inside of your messenger bag. When it comes to sound, with the size of the unit taken into consideration, it definitely sounds very impressive. It has a very clean, natural tone with seemingly little-to-no overall coloration. Again, given the size, we would not expect much more from this little box.

On the front, the BAM200 has your typical 1/4″ input from your bass, followed by knobs to control “Gain,” followed by “Bass,” “Middle,” and “Treble” equalization controls, a master volume, and a 1/4″ headphone output jack. That’s pretty much what you’d expect from a basic bass amp. Around the back of the amplifier is an AC power port, a 1/4″ speaker output, an XLR output for DI’s, and finally, a ground lift switch. Again, these come standard on most amps, but the ground lift switch built in to this unit is sure to be useful. Power wise, the TC Electronic BAM200 can deliver up to 200 watts of intensity.

As a whole package, the TC Electronic BAM200 definitely seems like a quality little amplifier that packs a punch, especially for those on a budget. At this time, purchase information has not yet been made available by TC Electronic, however Thomann, a Denmark distributor, seems to have it available for preorder with a set price of €129. This converts to around $146 in the US, so perhaps we can expect to pick it up sometime soon for $100-150. In the meantime, we will keep our eyes peeled and make sure you stay updated on any further news from the BAM200.
