NAMM 2025: The API ASM164 summing mixer has 16 channels of analog glue

API products are most often associated with professional-level recording studios. At NAMM 2025 they unveiled a summing mixer designed for professional studios to bedroom setups and everything in between – the API ASM164.

It’s a 16-channel analog summing mixer that brings the renowned API sound in a semi-compact, 2U rackmount device. By taking a cue from the company’s The Box mixing console it’s designed for studios of all sizes looking to add analog summing to mixes without the need for a full-size console.

Each channel offers balanced analog summing through DB-25 connectors and runs on API’s proprietary 2510 input op-amps and output transformers.

Additionally, every channel has continuously variable panning with center detent and 31-step detented level control. Routing that can be assigned to two stereo program buses.

Metering

There is a global 0dB channel level control bypass and send/return insert points for integrating outboard processing. Four-segment LED level meters give you a signal visual across all 16 channels.

A balanced external stereo input can be assigned to either of the two Mix program buses. And a stereo output level VU meter gives you a final readout over the 2-bus.

API Sound

Thanks to the input op-amps and output transformers the API ASM164 delivers the warmth, punch, and precision people love about the company’s consoles.

Summary

No matter the size of your recording studio, the API ASM164 is a perfect piece of gear. It brings your tracks together with some serious analog glue. The API ASM164 is available now for $3,195.
