Fender Owned by Leo Fender until bought by CBS in 1965, then later privately owned, Fender designed and built many of the iconic instrument, amplifiers and effects fundamental to modern music. The Telecaster and Stratocaster are still among the best selling guitars, and the Jazz bass and Precision bass are the prototypes for most of the basses sold today. His amplifiers popularized Tremolo and Reverb as well as covering the needs of beginners to massive stages in all genres from old time country to metal. Effects were less profitable for the company, but outboard reverbs and some 70s fuzz pedals are still well regarded. Currently Fender builds amps and guitars in Japan, Korea, Mexico, India, Indonesia, China, and the United States of America. Their Custom Shop can build almost anything you can imagine, while their least expensive Squier and Starcaster models are within the budget of any musician.
