All Things Gear is a website about music gear. This page explains what information the site collects when you read it, and what happens to it. In short: we count visits with Google Analytics, stores know when you arrive from one of our links, and that’s about it. We don’t sell information about readers.
What we collect
Visits. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which articles people read: the pages you view, roughly where you are (your country or city), the kind of device and browser you use, and the site that sent you. Google Analytics uses cookies to tell new visits from returning ones. Google says it doesn’t store IP addresses in Google Analytics, and its own privacy policy covers what it does with this information. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Links to stores. Many links on the site go to stores, like Amazon, Guitar Center, Musician’s Friend, Sweetwater, Reverb and eBay, through their affiliate programs. When you click one, the store, or the network that runs its program, may set a cookie so it knows you came from All Things Gear and can pay us a commission if you buy something. We see how many sales our links led to, not who bought what. The stores’ own privacy policies cover what they collect.
Videos and posts from other sites. Many articles include YouTube videos, and a few include posts from SoundCloud, X, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. These load from those services, which may set cookies and see your visit, under their own privacy policies.
Email. If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply to you.
Server records. Like every website, this one runs on servers (our web host’s, and those of the network that delivers its pages quickly) that briefly record technical details of each visit, like your IP address and browser, to deliver pages and keep the site secure.
What we don’t do
The site has no accounts, comments, newsletter or forms, and doesn’t show ads from ad networks. We don’t sell or share information about readers. If any of that changes, we’ll update this page first.
Children
All Things Gear is for a general audience and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
